4th Annual  Open House Canon John Pugh Estate

This years Open House was held in honor of the late Mr. Tyron Darville owner of Furniture Plus in The Bahamas.  Many turned out to view the 3 bed, two bath home at the 4th Open House held in Canon John Pugh Subdivision located on Springfield Road off Fox Hill Road, This Subdivision was named after the late Canon John Pugh who was the founder of St. Anne’s School. Canon John Pugh, a British National moved to the Bahamas in 1942 and was later ordained as Priest on May 24, 1954.  He was placed in charged of the Parish Church of St. Anne, Fox Hill. He has contributed much to the field of education and in 2000 was among the first to receive our Nations highest honour, the Order of Merit.

 

$150,000 awarded in scholarships

Sunshine Insurance & Elmira College held the finals of its 4th speech competition.  This year both Sunshine Insurance and & Elmira College did it bigger and better by offering a total of 150,000.  Again 11th & 12th grade students from all over The Bahamas Islands were given the opportunity to participate.  Students were required to write on the topic “An Idea or Ideas That Can Boost The Bahamian Economy”.  This year winners of the speech competition were as follows: 1st Place- Jade Williams, Queens College, 2nd Place- Delphino Gilbert Cassar II, Queens College, 3rd Place- Kandra Knowles St. Anne’s, 4th Place- Tawana R. Patton-Burrows, St. John’s College

Winner of Elmira College's Essay Competition receives $40,000 scholarship

Barry Griffin a student of St. Agustine’s College won $40,000 to attend Elimra College.  For the past two years Sunshine Insurance the sister Company of Arawak Homes, and students of  Free Enterprise (SIFE) of Elmira College in Elmira New York partner to offer 11th and 12th graders throughout The Bahamas a chance to win $40,000 through their participation in an essay competition.  Students are required to write an essay between 800-1000 words on the topic “An Idea or Ideas That Can Boost The Bahamian Economy”.

 

Arawak Homes Ltd. Commissions Canon John Pugh Estates (NG July 8, 2005)

Foundation was being poured for new homes to be built in yet another subdivision. To ensure that every Bahamian owns a piece of the rock, Arawak Homes Ltd. commissioned the Canon John Pugh Estates on the Western tip of Springfield Road and named it in memory of the late Canon David John Pugh.  Canon Pugh was a  British National who moved to The Bahamas in 1942.  He was later ordained as a priest on May 24, 1954 and was placed in charge of the Parish Church of St. Anne, Fox Hill the same year.   From his garage he started St. Anne’s school and was the first principal.

Sunshine Insurance (Agents and Brokers) Ltd.  the sister Company of Arawak Homes Ltd., assisted The Bahamas National Youth Choir as a Platinum sponsor in achieving their goals for 2005 - one of which was to conduct a triumphant tour of China (Beijing, Shanghai, Wuxi and Suzhou), to produce a television documentary, release their first recording of Christmas music and to acquire additional equipments, while giving members the opportunity for self-growth, development and training.

Arawak Homes takes technical steps to improve its product

Two of Arawak Homes Ltd. managers Mr. Andrew Pinder (Construction Supervisor) and Trevor Bridgewater (Chief Architect) along with two builders Byron Gray and Walcott Miller attended the World of Concrete Tradeshow in Orlando Florida that ocused primarily on methods of building and issues relating to concrete.  The three-day seminar was geared towards eradicating the problem of extreme settlement method of building and the affects water and soil conditions have on foundation.  It also looked at ways in which the technical personal can firstly identify the type of land built on and how it effects the overall homebuilding process. 

 

Janay Pyfrom receives $40,000 scholarship

Janay Pyfrom is among many to win $40,000 in scholarship to attend Elmira College once she has completed her secondary education at Queens College. Janay is an 11th grader who participated in an essay competition held by Sunshine Insurance and Students of Free Enterprise (SIFE) of Elmira College in Elmira New York.  Janay was required to write an essay between 800-1000 words on the topic “An Idea or Ideas That Can Boost The Bahamian Economy”. Janay is the second student to receive this scholarship.

 

Newlyweds get a great reception.  Home is where the Heart is

Rather than spend large amounts of hard-earned money on a traditional wedding and reception, Camile and Lamount Hanna scarified their special day to save money to move into their own home.  After viewing a three-bedroom home off Joe Farrington Road, the couple decided to use their savings as a down payment on a home rather than an expensive wedding and reception.  Arawak Homes was impressed by the newly couple’s decision and decided to host a special wedding reception for the couple and their family at their new Arawak Home.  Mrs. Hanna said that she and her husband were extremely grateful and thrilled with the party.  “They told me that they would blow me away and they did” said Mrs. Hanna.

 

Residential community named to Honour E. Clement Bethel

E. Clement Bethel Estates is named in memory of the late E. Clement Bethel. It is the hope of the Board of Directors of Arawak Homes Ltd.  that the residential community will serve as a constant reminder of the contributions made by Mr. Bethel to The Bahamas especially in the field of music.  The concept of an Open House, said Mr. Wilson, is not just to tell people but to show people what is possible.

 

Sunshine launches mortgage broker

The Company Sunshine Finance Ltd. was incorporated September 24, 2004.  The aim is to target consumers whose credit standing prevents them from accessing a mortgage through traditional means. Mr. Frank Smith was named Operations Manager. Mr. Smith  noted that the Company was expected to help persons who have been burden with such a level of consumer debt that they are unable to qualify for home ownership.  As a broker, Sunshine Finance Ltd. will look to bring borrowers and lenders together and help with negotiations with lenders to try and find the best financing deal possible for the borrowers.

Police Officer- Foster Arthur Rolle stood alongside his wife Christine and baby girl Laurel as they received the keys to their new Arawak Home, following special prayers of thanksgiving by Chairman of the Police Appreciation Committee, Bishop Neil Ellis.  Mr. Wilson expressed his company’s commitment to assisting Law Enforcement Officers with homeownership.  Deputy Commissioner of Police Edward Fritzgerald who is also Co-Chairman of the Police Appreciation Committee, encouraged more officers to begin to pave the way towards owning their own homes, while creating a sound and stable environment for their families.

Ari Burrows a Kingsway Academy student is the first recipient to win the $40,000 scholarships.  Sunshine Insurance the sister Company of Arawak Homes, and students of Free Enterprise (SIFE) of Elmira College in Elmira New York  partnered to offer 11th and 12th graders throughout The Bahamas a chance to win $40,000 through their participation in an essay competition.  Students are required to write an essay between 800-1000 words on the topic “An Idea or Ideas That Can Boost The Bahamian Economy”.  This gives students a chance to receive a scholarship to attend Elmira College.  (PDF essay)

 

A Grand Open House 2003

Netisha Smith is the winner of Arawak Homes New Year Promotion Raffle.  She was one of the hundreds who attended the Open House in Freddie Munnings Manor in January 2003 and became eligible when she qualified for a three bedroom home.  The grand prize was a full five percent down payment in full by Arawak Homes Ltd.  Pictured making the contribution to Ms. Smith is Dena Ingraham, Arawak's Sales Manager.

R.E Cooper Estate offers the ‘whole deal” a one-stop shop for home buyers (NG January 19th 2004) Open House- Chairman of Arawak Homes Mr. Franklyn Wilson talks with some potential home buyers at the Open house held  at R.E. Cooper Estate on Jean Street next to The Bahamas Baptist Community College.

Hundreds turned out over the weekend to view the Open House for the new R.E Cooper Estate on Jean Street.   Chairman of Arawak Homes, Franklyn Wilson said it is hope of the Board of Directors of Arawak Homes that this residential community will serve as constant reminder of the contributions made by Dr. Cooper, he further noted that the housing company is continuing the tradition it recently started of naming subdivisions in honor and memory of outstanding Patriots.   He noted that Jean Street was chosen because it is in the vicinity of The Bahamas Baptist College and one of the contributions of Revered Cooper was his leading a march for Baptist to become major players in the educational system here.   R.E. Cooper Estates is named in memory of the late Rev. Dr. Reuben Edward Cooper, Sr. Dr. Cooper was a scholar, theologian extraordinaire, homiletician, and social reformer.

 

December 2003 - Over $50, 000 given to Junkanoo Groups

Arawak Homes Salutes Dame Doris, a human symbol for women

Arawak Homes Ltd. named it newest community after the late Dame Doris Johnson Estates. Senator Dame Doris Johnson was an Educator and Social Activist who served on the front line of Politics and Championed the cause of freedom for disenfranchised women and the oppressed.  She was the first women to offer as a candidate in an election for the House of Assembly, the first woman to be appointed to the Senate, the first woman to become a Cabinet Minister of the Government, the first women to become Leader for the Government in the Senate and the first to be elected President of the Senate.

Sir Lynden Pindling Estates, a model community

Sir Lynden Pindling Estate was commissioned by the late Former Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.  In the midst of Sir Lynden Pindling Estates sit two new Primary schools- Clevand Eneas and Sadie Curtis. This neighborhood was constructed to restore the feeling of “neighborhood of old” and to carry on the legacy of The Bahamas Former Prime Minister.
